2012 Woman's Conference

Smoky Lake will be hosting 2012 Woman's Conference on March 3 2012 at the Smoky Lake Complex. Registration fee is $30.00 (includes lunch). Early Bird deadline is February 10, 2012. Final registration is February 24, 2012. Registration forms are available at the Village, Town and County offices in the Smoky Lake region. Child care will be available.

RECOGNIZING OUR HERITAGE

NOTICE TO RESIDENTS OF

Smoky Lake County, Town of Smoky Lake,

Village of Waskatenau & Village of Vilna

Collectively, Smoky Lake County, Town of Smoky Lake, and the Villages of Waskatenau and Vilna, have contracted Community Design Strategies Inc. to conduct a Historical Survey and Inventory for the Smoky Lake Region. 

The Survey and Inventory Project is an important and primary step in protecting the heritage places that characterize the very way of life, the sense of time and place in our Region’s history. This is done through the surveying of potential historic sites, then prioritizing and completing a heritage inventory for specific sites that are worthy of pursuing historic designation. Once designation takes place, the site owners may apply for provincial dollars to assist in the restoration, rehabilitation and / or protection of a particular site.

Community Design Strategies Inc. (CDS Inc.) will be conducting site visits during June, July and August and may seek permission from land owners in any of these four municipalities.

The following personnel from Community Design Strategies Inc. will be involved in this project and may make contact with landowners:

Council approved to participate in the “Help Re-Build the Town of Slave Lake” Program and send three County employees to assist the Slave Lake Region.

Council approved to renew the 2011 membership to the Alberta’s Lakeland DMO and appointed Councilor Randy Orichowski as a Board Member.

Council adopted Bylaw No. 1221-11 which designated the Holy Trinity Russo Greek Orthodox Church of Smoky Lake, located on LSD 01-28-59-17 W4, as a Municipal Historic Resource.

Award of Road Construction Project No. C1112
Council awarded Road Construction Project No. C1112 to Location (1989) Cats Ltd. from St. Paul, Alberta.

To Help Prevent the Spread of H1N1

Smoky Lake County is taking a proactive approach to the upcoming influenza N1H1 strain that is expected to hit during this fall season.  Residents, who are feeling the onset of flu-like systems, are encouraged to avoid coming to the County Office to pay their utility or tax bills. Bills can be paid in alternative ways from the comfort of your home:

·       Internet Banking can be set up with the help of your local bank; and

·       Telephone Banking can be set up with the help of your local bank.

Whether you have flu symptoms or not, you should:

·       Cover your cough by coughing into your elbow or sleeve or use a tissue to cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing and discard tissue.

·       Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing.  Hand sanitizers are also effective.

·       Reduce the spread of germs by limiting toughing your eyes, nose or mouth and by washing your hands frequently.

·       Maintain your health by taking care of yourself and those in your care, including eating a healthy balanced diet, avoiding cigarette smoke and other harmful substances, being active and getting enough sleep.
