Notice to Register Contract Equipment
Owners of gravel truck(s) with belly dump trailer(s), water truck(s) and
road construction equipment are asked to register their equipment at the
County Shop. All owners must complete a Registration Form, outlining the
equipment description, model, serial number, year as well as proof of
insurance coverage, with two million dollars liability and WCB Account.
Road Bans - Weight Restriction
All OILED BASED roads within the County have a 75% weight restriction
YEAR ROUND. The past three years the County has not put a weight
restriction on gravel roads. However, the County requests the
cooperation of all farmers, contractors, heavy equipment haulers and the
oil & gas industry to haul on GRAVEL roads when the frost is in the
gravel roads, normally between 10 PM - 9 AM.
Please
DO NOT haul on gravel roads when the conditions are soft.
If you
see damage on County roads, please contact the County Shop at 656-3755
and report the location.
Thank
you for your cooperation in this matter.
Public Works Manager Report
Our Department, once again, had to
contend with various weather conditions in 2010. We were able to
complete our regular maintenance programs of gravelling County roads,
patching oil base road sections and repair and installation of culverts.
We were also successful in completing rehabilitation, construction, base
stabilization and individual dust control projects. Unfortunately, due
to periodic rains throughout the summer, the department fell behind in
oil treatment of various arterial roadways. We will do our best to catch
up in 2011.
The Hydro-Axe and Brushing programs
will once again continue providing better site lines for safer travel
throughout Smoky Lake County.
The Rock Excavation Program at White
Earth Pit will resume from spring thaw until freeze-up. This work from
here on forward will take place using County equipment; track hoe and
rock truck, along with County operators. Gravel crushing will once again
take place this spring to be completed by mid July.
The County, at various times
throughout the year, provides different training programs, which enable
our staff to provide the best service possible. Keeping our roads
comfortable for travel while battling different weather conditions.
In conjunction with Alberta
Transportation and Associated Engineering Smoky Lake County maintains a
Bridge Management Program. Bridges are inspected, deficiencies are noted
and recommendations are made to Alberta Transportation. Upon approval,
bridges are repaired or replaced on a priority basis.
Thank you to all the ratepayers for
calls pointing our hazards such as fallen trees or washouts. It is much
appreciated.
We hope to have a successful
maintenance and construction year and appreciate your patience as we
complete our projects.
